  1. HL Becker says:

Works ok, however the install instructions fail to tell the average user how to install the usb drivers:

right click android_winusb.inf file and select install.

Also it fails to tell the users that under settings/application setting/development that USB debugging has to be on

  2. Glory says:

i saved the amd64 to my computer but wen i right click and hit install it says “INF File Does Not Support This Method of Installation.” I have no clue what to do next.

  3. Glory says:

What is “local host” on port “8080?”

    • Guardam says:

Not “local host”, it is “localhost” with no space, put it in to your browser proxy setting and with port “8080”.

  4. Angela says:

How do you change the proxy on the browser?

  5. Shush says:

Works Great! Thanks for the info, been pulling my hair out for a week trying to tether. Now I’m going to get some Rogain and a beer!

  6. matthew says:

Nevermind, I tried using Firefox instead of explorer and it works fine.

  7. isaac ford says:

When you going to make a mac side for this?

  8. chris says:

ok I got most of this install down I believe. Not sure what the instructions mean by -“run connect.bat in the folder”. Any ideas?

    • Guardam says:

double click “connect.bat” file in the folder you extracted to your computer

      • Allen says:

I’ve downloaded and extracted the zip file twice. I don’t see a connect.bat file. There are only two files in the zip (a .jpg and a .exe) is there suppose to be another one?

        • Guardam says:

that is the client not the driver, please download the following driver first, then download the pc client which can make you use the app more simply. By the way, the jpg file is the instruction of how to use the pc client, you need read it first before you use the pc client.

  9. gavin says:

    can make drivers for mac

  10. Greg says:

Great program works well just a little slow but it works!!! Is there a way to get this to work with the windows sys settings with out another application because there is not place to set localhost and port. There’s LAN proxy settings but that requires a ether net cord which the USB is not recognized as.
I only ask because chrome uses this setup, and as a speeder browser might load pages faster.

  11. where do you download the adb ?

  12. how do i extract the zip file to my computer

  13. Kari Miller says:

How do I terminate the adb connection on my computer?

  14. okay i am at step 7 but when i ran the connect.bat it told me that the device wasn’t found i think i might have done something wrong can you get back to me on this one because i am stuck and i have class tomorrow so please get back at me asap

  15. Steve says:

    hey!

love your tethering app, problem is everytime i try to go to a site with https it wont let me in.
sometimes it says cannot find serer, sometimes it says connection refused by proxy

idk what to do, HELP PLEASE!

  16. pat says:

Any chance you can do a step by step for a mac/ droid x user. I have no Idea from your instructions how to install this.
    Thankyou.
    Pat

  17. Jamie says:

So last night it worked great. I was able to get onto all the websites that I needed too no problem. This morning I plug in and I get an error message
“The proxy server is refusing connections”
WTF everything is set exactly the same as the previous night so what happened?

  18. Christian says:

    Hi, thanks for your program.

I`ve got problems with step 6 (Windows user)
“6.in your phone side, change port to 6544 in Settings and then start service of AndroidTethering.”

How and where can I change ports in Android Settings?

  19. Al M. says:

The ADB driver does not work with T-Mobile G2 Phone, this is the link to the modified driver for the G2, Thanks to XDA devs!

    Really enjoy your app!
    Thanks

  20. Al M. says:

One little note about the application, can it be designed in such a way, where a ‘connection” icon can be formed on the PC? Some online services won’t run until that icon is active, such as “RDP” remote desktop.

    Any ideas? or work around(s)?

  21. mohamed kanneh says:

How can I use my phone as modem?

  22. Mike says:

It keeps telling me that it cannot find the file location. I’ve been trying for hours to find and delete this file. Please help!

    • Guardam says:

The adb path should be format as “x:\xxx\xxx\adb.exe”, the adb.exe is a must have.

      • Evin says:

Well I am looking at the path of every single file in each folder and NONE of them end in .exe. Do you have to actually type that at the end of it or should it already be included in the path name?

  23. JP says:

Running Windows 7 Enterprise here. When I connect my phone (Vibrant) to my PC, I do not receive a driver dialog box. Phone is in debugging usb mode and does allow me to open phone storage as a mass storage device. What am I missing?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Guardam says:

It seems the driver has already been installed to your computer, just skip the driver installation step and do the following steps.

  24. slwerner says:

    Okay,

I’ve got the ABD.EXE driver in place on my laptop PC – the correct one for an AMD processor, BTW.

Set Firefox proxy as instructed – “localhost” & “8080”

Android (Droid X 2.2) USB set to debugging mode.
USB connection in “USB Mass Storage” mode (on phone)

I start the “Free-Tethering” Android app, and check “Start Service”

I run the “AndroidTethering PC client.exe” app on laptop; set the adb path; and click the ‘Check Connection” button -> returns: “Device:015D95CB0B02400D successful connected!”

Then I click the “Start Service” button -> returns “successful run”.

    Everything looks good to go…

But, when I try to access a site via URL -> returns: “The system cannot find the file specified.” for some sites, and “EAccessViolation” for others.

Did I miss something? Any ideas?

I’d be interested in purchasing the full version, but first I need to know that it’s going to work.

  25. Evin says:

No matter what I do it keeps teilling me “Exception, please contact Guradamcs@gmail.com

I have extracted all three files, tried installing the driver – tells me installation failed, my USB Debugging is enabled and I did the proxy settings also. Why is the driver not installing and what else am I doing wrong?

Also for the path I have to put in, does it have to be the entire folder in general or one specific file in the folder? Also which one do I use – the AndroidTethering64–adb or the AndroidTethering–adb folder (or which file in which one of them)? Also what is the difference between the two (I know what the third one is, its the PC Client with the instructions)?

I know the proxy works when I have it in there because none of my web pages will load (so it’s trying to connect through it) – I had to take out the settings to keep browsing – so until I get this fixed I cannot keep the proxy setting in it or I can’t browse.

    • Evin says:

Also I realized that both of those files are BOTH drivers so I tried installing the driver from each one and BOTH say installation failed. I right clicked on the android_winusb.inf file and selected install. Neither worked.

  26. Evin says:

Ok so what I did to get the connection to work was get the path of the file titled just “adb” (which looks like a little windows window) then you have to type \Adb.exe at the end of the path. (the get the path, right click on the adb file and select properties, then copy and the path and paste it in the PC Client path box with \Adb.exe at the end of it)

It should then tell you your connection is successful when you check the connection AND successful run when you start the PC Client. Then start the AndroidTethering app on your phone, Make sure you have the proxy correctly Tools – Internet Options – Connections tab – LAN Settings – under Proxy Server check mark the box and the address is localhost and the port is 8080. You should then be able to connect.

I guess my computer already had the driver installed on it which is why it kept telling me installing failed.

    • Evin says:

Sorry so many postings – just trying to help people.

I also wanted to let you all know that when you are finally connecting to the internet and you loose connection signals, it is NOT the programs – the connection to the internet will ONLY be as good as the connection on your phone. So if your cell phone is not getting good connection at that moment – you will not get good internet connection either.

      Just an FYI!!

  27. Evin says:

One more question I have – is this only a trial version that will eventually expire or is it free and I will always have it for use now?

  28. kewan says:

Can someone please help me install this app iam lost thank you

  29. julio says:

Dear Mr. Guardam. I need help to teather my a855 moto droid to my computer. Can you give me some personal help? If so, e-mail me. I was told by my carrier that it cannot be done to this model phone. can you help me please? I can make a donation. what would it take?

  30. julio says:

    Dear Mr Guardam,

I believe I was able to successfully install your program onto my a855 and Windows 7 computer, but my wireless provider refuses to or just cannot provide me with the internet service to browse. Is this the end of the line?

  31. Matt says:

Is there even an app for this in the market, or is it just what you have here? You’re listed on appbrain and I can see this app and the two others shown with different names (same app though), but when synced there’s nothing in the market.

  32. Charlie says:

Any fix to using DNS outside of a browser? For instance being able to use tcping to test connectivity.

  33. shawn says:

How would I get it to run for my ps3 gaming system??

  34. kneeL says:

My comment was removed. I was simply stating the drivers did not work.

I found out why – the USB drivers for some phones yo uhave to get elsewhere, the package does not include them. For example Samsung phones you just goto Samsung Support and then get the USB modem drivers for your device.
Works great now, also other free tethering apps are the same!~

There was a help file with links for Diff phones and where to get working drivers, this guy should do the same and not delete everyones truthful comments

  35. Zohair says:

I did every step all through step 7. But when I connect it says device not found am I doing something wrong.

    • Guardam says:

Please check whether you installed the correct driver of your phone and opened usb debugging in settings of your phone.

  36. Road warrier says:

Ok so I’ve got the mytouch slide I’ve followed all of the steps got kind of hung up in the correct path to make., now it says if u click on start service it says successful cbut if i click check connection it says not device connected with pc. But I’ve got the phone plugged in and in usb debugging mode turned on. I can open to view the files on my sd card so I believe the drivers are installed correct?

    • Guardam says:

Hi, please make your phone in the normal tool mode of usb, do not make it in removable device mode, and then make sure you have installed the correct driver of your phone.

      • Road warrier says:

Ok so now when I click on start service it says successful. If i click on check connection it says device ht05mps03974, successful connected.(note this only works if I’ve got my phone in sync mode connected to my laptop) But I am unable to open a web browser and go online. I followed the instructions the right way on having to change the proxy from 8080 to 6544. I am using windows 7 64 bit. Should I see a notification in the bottom right corner that I am connected?

  38. seth says:

So i want to download this app and use it, but I have a question…
I have a windows vista, and I can’t figure out if I need to download the x86 or amd64. How do I determine which one I need to download?

  39. brian says:

UPDATE: I followed Evin’s advice from above and simplified the filepath by copying adb directly to my c directory. I gave the tethering client this new filepath and it opened a dos box, closed the dos box and became unresponsive. This happens whether I have the phone connection on, or off. What next?

    Thanks

    • Guardam says:

The dos box will disappear automatically, so just wait for it disappear itself.

    • brian says:

Thanks for that incredibly incompetent response! Did you bother to read my comment before you made up something dismissive and unrelated?!? I notice my other post never made it to the board… so I assume you didn’t read it either. No wonder your program is so difficult to install… you obviously use the same attention to detail in programming as you use in your tech responses! I mean, thanks and all for a free product, but if it doesn’t work – why bother. Thanks and all for providing forum responses, but if they aren’t relevant and helpful, why bother. Wasting your time and mine!!!

A sincere thank you for making me realize it’s time to root!

  40. Lll says:

Hi, I installed your driver and app successfully. My PC recognize my phone but I can not go online. I try to change filter agent and it did not work. I have full imternet connection on my Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile network. Please help me. Thanks.

    • Guardam says:

please make sure the path of adb is format as “x:\xxx\xx\adb.exe”, the “adb.exe” is a must have.

And then check the connection in the pc client, if successful, it will prompt you successful msg, otherwise, you may have to make sure you have enabled the usb debugging in your phone and install the driver correctly.

Any question please feel free to ask me.

      • Lll says:

Thanks for quick response, but I still have problems connecting. All the drivers are installed properly, when I click check connection on my PC client, it gives me “Device:T959B06CE00E successful connected!” Then when I click to Start Service, it says “Successful run”. Then in my phone I start tethering services (in my phone USB Debugging is enabled) and try to connect to internet through my Firefox browser it is not allowing me to connect to internet (I have internet connection in my phone). I also, try network setting to “localhost” port “8080”, but nothing works. Any thoughts on that.

  41. vorapong says:

USING WITH FIREFOX ON WINDOWS PORT 6544
I just installed the program in my machine. For the fisrt method (using port 6544) it works with IE without any setting changes. BUT for Firefox, I have to change proxy setting in menu Tools > Advanced > Network > Connection > Settings… Select “Use system proxy setting”. It works very well. Thank you for the great program.

  42. Cari says:

So I’m not to good at this and I sound stupid but how do I unzip the zip file one my computer? Then plug the usb in after that, wouldn’t it have to b plugged in to unzip it to my computer? Can u tell me how I unzip this on a moto droid the first one? Thanks

    • Guardam says:

Hi, the file you downloaded from website used for your pc not your phone, you need copy it to your pc and unzip it through zip applications such as 7zip or any others to your pc.
Then, follow the instruction step by step, and email me if you have any problem with the instruction.

  43. Chris says:

I wanted to ask a question about the tethering.

I was wondering if I needed to get the tethering plan on my phone to be able to use your app?

I know I can buy the tethering plan and use it the “offical” way without an app, but just wondering if this used my unlimited internet that I am already paying for on my phone?

    Thanks,

    Chris

I am on Windows 7 with Intel. Using Droid X.
I didn’t get a “Install” message during this process.
I use the Droid Media Share to synch my phone, so I’m hoping I have the correct drivers already installed. When I right click on the …winusb.INF file, it says: The INF file you selected does not support this method of installation.
I’m sure that I have the correct path to adb.exe – I pasted it, and I can see adb.exe running in processes.
USB debugging ON, Port:6544 in AndroidTethering
On Phone, USB Mass Storage is default for USB connection. When I plug in, it says: USB connected. USB debugging connected.
I see the notification: Connection detected. Select to open Media Share
Check Connection on PC gives: There is no device connected with PC
USB Connection has 4 settings: PC Mode, Windows Media Sync, USB Mass Storage, Charge Only. None works.
There were 2 INSTALL failed messages: one for MB810, and ADB: No driver found.
But then it said : Driver for Droid MB810 installed and I think there was one for Droid ADB, but it wiped them after I looked at them the first time.
When I choose Windows Media Sync, I get a Droid Window in the tool bar, but no Device in Devices and Printers. PC mode gives neither. USB Mass Storage gives MB810 in Devices…. and has the message USB debugging connected.

    LGEve running openetna 6.2 works.

simpler than azilink: no need for openvpn install and cfg script.
better than azilink: pages load properly.

    Good work.

I followed ur instructions and Windows 7 couldnt find the drivers. So I then went to LG’s website and downloaded this: http://www.lgforum.com/resources

It installed fine. I then tried updating the driver and windows says your driver is already up to date. :/ Before that, it said It could not find any drivers.

*Now I set the correct path in your program and try to connect but it says to Install the driver.. and check path. Im unsure if I have the correct drivers.

My Phone is LG Optimus V, Android 2.2 Froyo.

Also in device manager it says I have.. “after the LG Android file install”
ADB Interface>Android Sooner Single ADB Interface.

and to clarify I did enable usb debugging and enabled to start tethering service in the app.

  73. Mandi says:

I have tried to get this to work for hours now and am having no sucess. How do i know if the drivers are installed properly? I unzipped the folder and the new file is there with the adb application there… but when I input that address into the PC client file it says theres no device connected. (I have a Sprint LG Optimus) I notice tho, that when I enable the Debug Mode in AppDevelopment, it turns off my usb connection to the laptop. (I’m using windows7 by the way)…. HELP!!!! THANKS!!!

    • Mandi says:
